ILUKA is a premium spa care range from Lo-Chlor built around ocean-sourced natural minerals. The range covers sanitation, oxidising, water balancing, natural clarification, mineral enhancement and maintenance.
Water that is low in calcium hardness does not stay inert. It is chemically unsatisfied and draws minerals from whatever it contacts: the spa shell, tile grout, heater elements and equipment seals. This process is invisible and slow until it is not. Low-hardness water costs spa owners significantly in equipment repairs and surface restoration. ILUKA Hardup raises calcium hardness to the level where water becomes stable and stops attacking the surfaces around it.
The target calcium hardness for concrete and tiled spas is 200 to 275 ppm. For acrylic and fibreglass spas, the target is 175 to 225 ppm. Test using a test kit before adjusting, and always pre-dissolve Hardup in a bucket of warm water before adding to the spa.
ILUKA Hardup details
Raises calcium hardness in spa and hot tub water
Protects equipment, heater elements and surfaces from corrosion
Check after every water change - hardness varies by tap water source
📏 How to dose▾
Pre-dissolve in a bucket of warm water. Add slowly with the pump running.
To raise by 10 ppm
14g
per 1,000L
Dissolve in warm water and add with pump running. Retest after 4 hours.
New spa or fresh fill
Test before adding
Calcium hardness in tap water varies by region. Test first to know how much to add and avoid exceeding the target range.
Very low hardness
Add in stages
For hardness below 100 ppm, add in 14g increments per 1,000L with retesting between doses.
❓ FAQ▾
How do I test calcium hardness?▾
Use a calcium hardness test kit or test strips that include hardness testing. The 3-in-1 strips in the ILUKA In A Box kit do not test calcium hardness, so a standalone kit is needed for this specific measurement.
My new spa is only a few months old. Do I need Hardup already?▾
Possibly. Calcium hardness depends on your tap water supply, not the age of the spa. Test when you fill and correct if needed. In areas with naturally soft water, hardness will be low regardless of how new the spa is.
What happens if I overshoot the target range?▾
Above 350 ppm, calcium scale starts to form on heater elements and surfaces, especially when pH and alkalinity are also elevated. If you have overshot, dilution by partial water replacement is the most practical fix.
Can I add Hardup directly to the spa?▾
No. Pre-dissolve in a bucket of warm water and add slowly with the pump running to avoid temporary cloudiness.
