📋 How it works▾
Lo-Chlor Starver X is the highest-strength phosphate remover in the Starver range, using next-generation technology to strip phosphate levels that standard removers struggle to address in a single treatment.
Phosphates are algae's primary food source. No matter how consistently you dose algaecide or chlorine, if phosphates remain elevated, algae will keep returning. Starver X tackles the root cause — removing the food supply so your other pool chemicals can work properly.
Lo-Chlor Starver X details
Highest-strength formula in the Lo-Chlor Starver phosphate remover range
Next-generation phosphate removal technology — handles concentrations standard products can't
Dramatically improves water clarity as a side effect of phosphate removal
Compatible with all pool types and sanitiser systems
Available in three sizes: 1L, 5L and 20L — choose based on pool size and phosphate level
Always test phosphate levels before and after application
Choosing your size: The 1L is right for most residential pool owners treating a phosphate spike. The 5L suits pools needing regular high-dose treatment, or owners who want supply on hand between service visits. The 20L drum is for commercial pools or service professionals managing multiple properties.
Always test before and after using Lo-Chlor Starver Test Kit. Once levels are under control, switch to Lo-Chlor Starver M for monthly maintenance — it's more economical than Starver X for keeping low levels low. After stripping phosphates, dose Lo-Chlor Pool Algaecide to maintain algae prevention.
🔍 Does it suit my pool?▾
Phosphate removers are compatible with all pool types. Select yours for specific guidance.
🧂Salt chlorinated▾
✓ Compatible — salt pools often have higher phosphates
Salt pool owners frequently see elevated phosphate levels from swimwear, sunscreen and body products. Regular phosphate removal prevents these building to levels that encourage algae growth even when chlorinator output is reduced.
💧Traditional chlorine▾
✓ Compatible — works with all chlorine systems
Add phosphate remover separately from chlorine. Allow the pool to circulate for 2 hours after adding chlorine before dosing. Run the filter for at least 8 hours after application.
🪨Mineral / magnesium▾
✓ Compatible — works with all mineral systems
Mineral pool systems are fully compatible with phosphate removers. Apply with the pump running and run the filter for at least 8 hours after dosing.
⚡Ionised / Nature2▾
✓ Compatible — safe for ionised pools
Starver phosphate removers contain no copper and do not interact with copper ionisation systems. They are the preferred algae-prevention companion for ionised pools where copper-based algaecides should be avoided.
🏊Fibreglass▾
✓ Compatible — may cause brief cloudiness
Phosphate removers can create a temporary white haze as particles bind and settle — normal and clears within 12–48 hours. Run the filter continuously during this period.
🧱Concrete / pebblecrete▾
✓ Compatible — important for black spot prevention
High phosphate levels are a key factor in black spot algae return in pebblecrete pools. Regular phosphate removal removes the food source that allows black spot to re-establish after treatment.
💊 Dosage guide▾
Dosage is based on current phosphate level. Test with the Starver Test Kit before dosing, then retest 48 hours after. Run filter continuously during treatment.
Low (under 300 ppb)
100 ml
per 50,000 L
Maintenance dose. Consider switching to Starver M for regular top-ups at this level.
Moderate (300–600 ppb)
200 ml
per 50,000 L
Single treatment dose. Retest after 48 hours and repeat if needed.
High (600–1,000 ppb)
400 ml
per 50,000 L
Full Starver X dose. May require a second application 48 hours after the first.
Very high (1,000+ ppb)
500 ml+
per 50,000 L
Maximum dose. Run filter 48 hours then backwash before retesting.
❓ FAQ▾
Where do phosphates come from?▾
Phosphates enter pools from fertiliser and garden runoff (especially in autumn), leaves and organic debris, sunscreen and body products, and even tap water. Some pool chemicals also introduce phosphates over time. Testing every 4–6 weeks helps catch spikes early.
Will Starver X cloud my water?▾
It may temporarily produce a white haze as phosphate particles bind and settle — this is normal and clears within 24–48 hours as your filter removes the settled material. Backwash your filter after treatment.
How is Starver X different from Starver M?▾
Starver X uses next-generation technology to remove high phosphate concentrations — it's the heavy-duty treatment. Lo-Chlor Starver M is formulated for maintaining low levels once Starver X has done the heavy lifting. Think of Starver X as the cure and Starver M as the prevention.
Which size is right for me?▾
For a single residential pool with an occasional phosphate spike, the 1L is sufficient for 2–5 treatments depending on your pool size and phosphate level. The 5L is economical if you need to treat frequently or have a large pool. The 20L is for pool service professionals or commercial facilities.
My algae keeps coming back. Will this fix it?▾
If algae returns despite regular chemical treatment, elevated phosphates are very likely the cause. Starver X removes the food source. After treating, follow up with Lo-Chlor Pool Algaecide monthly and retest phosphates every 4–6 weeks to stay ahead of it.
