How to replace the G2 diaphragm?

Key Takeaways

  • Before disassembling, unscrew the combined outer extension pipe and cassette chamber via the nut at the top of the cleaner — this is the entry point for the entire diaphragm removal process.
  • The cassette chamber and inner extension pipe must be unscrewed and separated from the outer extension pipe before the diaphragm can be pushed through and removed.
  • Always check the plastic retaining ring when replacing the diaphragm — if it is broken, it must be replaced at the same time as the diaphragm itself.
  • During reassembly, the retaining ring must be seated in the groove on the diaphragm before wriggling it onto the inner extension pipe, and the diaphragm must end up positioned at the bottom of the cassette chamber.
  • The steps for the G2 differ from the T3 and T5 models — always follow the G2-specific exploded parts diagram to ensure the correct components are referenced during disassembly and reassembly.

In this article, we outline a step to step to replace your suction cleaner diaphragm in your G2 cleaner.

Diaphragm removal:

1. Unscrew the combined outer extension pipe & cassette chamber (G2 exploded parts 3 & 5) via the nut at the top of the cleaner.

2. Pull the cassette chamber & outer extension pipe out of the G2 Body.

3. Unscrew and separate the cassette chamber & inner extension (G2 parts 5 & 9-11) pipe from the outer extension pipe.

4. Push the inner extension pipe, retaining ring, and diaphragm (G2 parts 9-11) down through the cassette chamber.

5. Wriggle the diaphragm off the inner extension pipe.

6. Remove the plastic retaining ring on the diaphragm. If this is also broken, it will need replacing.

Diaphragm Assembly:

1. Place the plastic retaining ring on the grove on the diaphragm.

2. Wriggle the diaphragm onto the inner extension pipe.

3.Pull the diaphragm and inner extension pipe up through the cassette chamber. The diaphragm should end up at the bottom of the cassette chamber.

4. Screw the cassette chamber & inner extension pipe onto the outer extension pipe.

5. Push the combined cassette chamber & outer extension pipe back into the G2 body, and screw it back into place.
