AquaSpa is a chlorine and bromine-free spa sanitation system developed by Lo-Chlor. The range covers sanitiser, shock, clarifier, water balancers, and filter and pipe care for residential spas, hot tubs and swim spas.
The 500ml is the entry point. Whether you are trying the AquaSpa system before committing to a larger pack, or your spa sits quiet for several weeks between uses, this is the size that makes sense. At 60ml per 1,000L weekly, the 500ml provides roughly eight weeks of treatment for a standard 1,000L spa before you need to reorder.
Like all sizes, it uses polyhexanide hydrochloride (PHMB) at 20g/L: a non-chlorine, non-bromine biocide that kills bacteria and pathogens without producing odours, irritating skin or affecting the spa's equipment and surfaces. If you decide AquaSpa is right for you, moving to the Spa Sanitiser 2.5L or Spa Sanitiser 5L brings the cost per treatment down considerably.
AquaSpa Spa Sanitiser details

🛁 Does it suit my spa?▾
Compatible with all spa and hot tub types. Select your setup for specific guidance.
🛁Acrylic or fibreglass hot tub▾
Compatible - most common use case
The formula is non-foaming and non-corrosive. Safe on acrylic and fibreglass surfaces and will not degrade jets or equipment seals.
🏊Swim spa▾
Compatible - adjust dose for volume
Swim spas hold more water than a standard hot tub. Dose at the correct rate per 1,000L and test more frequently under high bather load.
🧱Concrete or tiled spa▾
Compatible - maintain pH carefully
Works well in concrete and tiled spas. Keep pH in the 7.0 to 7.8 range to protect grout and tile surfaces. Use pH Reducer or Alkalinity Enhancer to adjust as needed.
⚡Spa with ozone generator or ioniser▾
Fully compatible
Ozone and ioniser systems reduce sanitiser demand. A slightly lower dose may maintain effective protection. Test regularly and adjust.
🔄Switching from chlorine or bromine▾
Yes, preparation required
Chlorine and bromine deactivate AquaSpa Sanitiser. Drain and refill the spa, run Pipe Klenz through the pipes, then use Chlorine Remover on the fresh fill before dosing.
📏 Dosage guide▾
Dose weekly with the pump running. Maintain pH between 7.0 and 7.8. If switching from a chlorine or bromine system, confirm levels are at zero before starting.
First-time setup
60ml
per 1,000L
Clean spa and filtration before filling. Use Chlorine Remover to neutralise chlorine in tap water before the first dose.
Weekly maintenance
60ml
per 1,000L
Add weekly with the pump running. Run filtration for at least one full cycle after dosing.
After heavy use
+ 30ml
per 1,000L
Add a half-dose top-up after parties or extended sessions. Follow with Spa Shock 500g to clear the extra organic load.
❓ FAQ▾
Is the 500ml enough for a new spa setup?▾
Yes. Dose at 60ml per 1,000L for the first treatment. If you have a 1,000L spa, the 500ml covers the initial dose and around seven further weekly treatments. For ongoing use the Spa Sanitiser 2.5L is more economical.
Do I still need Spa Shock?▾
Yes. Spa Shock 500g is a non-chlorine oxidiser that removes organic compounds the sanitiser alone cannot break down. Use it weekly or after heavy use to keep water clear and the sanitiser working properly.
Can I switch from chlorine to AquaSpa?▾
Yes. Drain the spa, run Pipe Klenz before refilling, then add Chlorine Remover to the fresh fill to neutralise any chlorine in the tap water. Chlorine deactivates the sanitiser, so levels must be at zero before the first dose.
