Understanding the Aquaspa Spa Sanitisation System

What is Aquaspa?

The AQUASPA™ SYSTEM by Lo-chlor is a chlorine and bromine-free spa sanitisation system consisting of 3 core steps to keep your Spa clean and hygienic. It has no fumes unlike other spa sanitisers, making it very pleasing to use.

Aquaspa differs from other chlorine alternative systems by using a base called PHMB which is also commonly known as "polyhexanide" or "poly hexamethylene biguanide".

Aquaspa System Benefits:

If you are looking at other spa sanitisation systems, you would select Aquaspa if you are looking for products that are:

  • Chlorine Free
  • Bromine Free
  • Odourless
  • Easy and effective to use
  • Safe for your family
  • Cost effective

What is Polyhexanide?

PHMB is used in the healthcare industry for its high antimicrobial properties. It damages the cell membranes of microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi, effectively eliminating them.

In a clinical health environment, it is used first and foremost to prevent infections from occurring. It is used in first aid, wound healing, burn treatments etc. It is also used to sanitise water.

How do you sanitise your spa in 3 easy weekly steps using Aquaspa?

Step 1- Aquaspa Spa Sanitiser

Step 1 - Aquaspa Spa Sanitiser

In order to keep your spa hygienic it is imperative that you use a spa sanitiser. The Aquaspa sanitiser is what you select for step one in the process of killing microbes like bacteria.

The correct dosing procedure is to use 60ml per 1000L of spa water.

Step 2 - Aquaspa spa shock

Step 2 - Aquaspa Spa Shock

Next in the process add 20g per 1000 Litres of water. Using a spa shock oxidises your spa and removes any contaminants including body fats.

Step 3 - Aquaspa Spa Kleer

Step 3 - Aquaspa Spa Kleer

This completely natural product from the sea will change the appearance of your spa water, ensuring it is sparkling clear.

Add 60g for every 1000 Litres of water you have in your spa.

Maintaining your spa water with Aquaspa

In summary, the aquaspa sanitisation system has been designed for ease of use as well as a healthy alternative to conventional spa chemicals.

In order to keep your spa water in great condition you need to:

  • Sanitise your water on a regular basis
  • Ensure your spa water is balanced (has the right pH, alkalinity and calcium levels) by checking the pH, alkalinity and calcium levels with Aquaspa Insta test strips and adjusting according to your findings.
  • Have good quality filtration, and ensure you clean and replace your filter cartridges when required, (Aquaspa have a filter cleaner called "Instant Filter Klenz).
  • Utilise the range of Aquaspa products when required based on all of the above factors.

How to Use Aquaspa with a brand new spa

  1. Start by taking off the cover of your spa and giving your new spa a clean and wipe down to remove any manufacturing dust or debris.
  2. Fill up your spa with new water by putting a hose in your spa's filter box.
  3. Because water contains chlorine you will need to use the Aquaspa Chlorine Remover. Follow the instructions according to how much water is in your spa. Switch on the filtration pump and leave for 30 minutes.
  4. The next step is to use the Insta Test Strips to test your water's pH, alkalinity and calcium levels. Please note the pH should be between 7.4 and 7.6, Alkalinity levels need to be between 120-150 ppm and calcium hardness should be 200-275 ppm.
  5. Balance your water using the Aquaspa pH Reducer, Alkalinity Enhancer or Calcium Enhancer based on your test strip reading to achieve the desired levels above.
  6. Next add the Aquaspa Sanitiser and run the filter pump for an hour. Add 60ml for every 1000 Litres in your spa.
  7. After an hour select the Aquaspa Spa Shock, adding 20g per 1000 Litres of water in your spa. Run the filter pump for half an hour.
  8. Continue by adding 60ml per 1000 Litres of Spa water of Aquaspa Spa Kleer and run the filter pump yet again for another half an hour.
  9. Now keep your filter pump running for 6 hours or until your spa water appears to be clear.
  10. Finally after 24 hrs clean your filter cartridges with Aquaspa Instant Filter Klenz!
