Lo-Chlor — Algaecides
Pool Blackspot Algaecide Remover 1kg
⚫ Granular formula 90% Tri-Chlor Pebblecrete & plaster Direct to surface
📋 How it works

Lo-Chlor Pool Blackspot Algaecide Remover is a granular 90% Tri-Chlor treatment for eliminating black spot algae on pebblecrete, white plaster and tiled pool surfaces — the first granular black spot treatment from Lo-Chlor.

Black spot algae (cyanobacteria) has a tough protective casing that anchors into porous surfaces. The granular form is particularly effective because the granules sink and settle directly onto affected areas, maintaining concentrated contact with the algae longer than liquid treatments — essential for penetrating the protective layer.

Lo-Chlor Pool Blackspot Algaecide Remover details

  • 90% Tri-Chlor granular formula — specifically for black spot algae
  • Granules sink and settle directly onto affected areas for extended contact
  • Non-metallic — no copper staining risk
  • Not affected by high chlorine levels
  • Low pH promotes better performance — adjust to 7.2 before treatment
  • ⚠ Only suitable for pebblecrete, white plaster and tiled pools — not fibreglass

For liquid spot application on walls and steps, the Lo-Chlor Black Spot Algae Killer 1L is easier to direct precisely. Many pool owners use both — granular for pool floors, liquid for walls. After treatment, strip the phosphate food source with Lo-Chlor Starver X to prevent regrowth.

🔍 Does it suit my pool?

⚠ This product is only suitable for specific pool surface types. Check below before use.

🧂Salt chlorinated

Compatible with salt chlorination. Apply directly to affected areas with pump running.
💧Traditional chlorine
✓ Compatible — most common use case
Designed for chlorine pool environments. Apply after super-chlorinating for best results.
🪨Mineral / magnesium
✓ Compatible — works with mineral systems
Compatible with mineral pool chemistry. Apply directly to black spot affected areas.
Ionised / Nature2
✓ Compatible — non-metallic, preferred over copper
Being non-metallic, this is the preferred black spot treatment for ionised pool systems.
🏊Fibreglass
✗ Not suitable for fibreglass pools
⚠ Tri-Chlor granules can bleach and damage fibreglass surfaces. For fibreglass pools with black spot, use Lo-Chlor Pool Algaecide at the black spot dose rate instead.
🧱Concrete / pebblecrete
✓ Primary use — specialist treatment for pebblecrete
Pebblecrete is the primary application. Granules sink and settle on the affected floor areas, maintaining contact longer than liquid treatments on horizontal surfaces.

❓ FAQ
Granular vs liquid black spot treatment — which do I use?
The granular form (this product) is best for pool floors and large horizontal areas — the granules settle and stay in contact with the algae. The Black Spot Algae Killer 1L liquid is easier for walls, steps and precise spot application. For heavy infestations covering both floor and walls, use both products.
My black spot keeps coming back after treatment.
Regrowth is usually caused by: (1) incomplete brushing — you must scrub vigorously with a stainless steel brush to break the protective layer; (2) elevated phosphates providing a food source — test and treat with Starver X; (3) insufficient repeat treatments for heavy infestations. All three need to be addressed together.
Do I need to lower my chlorine first?
No — Tri-Chlor black spot treatment is not affected by high chlorine levels. Adjust pH to 7.2 before treatment for better penetration, but chlorine levels don't need adjustment.
