The AquaFresh/AquaSpa 4-in-1 Test Kit by LaMotte is the dedicated water testing kit for pools and spas using the AquaFresh non-chlorine (PHMB) or AquaSpa non-chlorine systems — the only accurate way to monitor the four key parameters of these systems.

Standard DPD chlorine test kits cannot measure PHMB sanitiser levels, hydrogen peroxide, or the specific parameters needed for non-chlorine pool chemistry. This kit tests all four: PHMB/biguanide level, hydrogen peroxide, pH and total alkalinity — giving complete water quality information for AquaFresh and AquaSpa pool and spa owners.

Regular testing keeps the AquaFresh system balanced and effective.

Test PHMB level
Weekly
target 30–50 ppm
Test sanitiser level weekly. Dose AquaFresh Sanitiser to top up if below 30 ppm.
Test pH
Weekly
target 7.2–7.6
PHMB systems still require correct pH. Add pH increaser or reducer as needed.
Test total alkalinity
Monthly
target 80–120 ppm
Alkalinity buffers pH against rapid changes. Adjust with sodium bicarbonate if below 80 ppm.
Test hydrogen peroxide
As needed
0 ppm target
Hydrogen peroxide should be zero in an AquaFresh system. Presence indicates residual from other products.
❓ FAQ▾
Why can't I use a standard chlorine test kit?▾
Standard DPD test kits react with chlorine to produce a colour reading. PHMB doesn't react with DPD reagents — a standard kit would show zero chlorine (correct) but cannot measure PHMB at all. You'd have no way of knowing whether your sanitiser level is adequate.
How often should I test?▾
Test PHMB and pH weekly. Test alkalinity monthly. Test more frequently when first starting the system or after significant water additions, heavy rain, or high bather loads.
What should I do if PHMB reads low?▾
Add AquaFresh Sanitiser to bring levels back to the 30–50 ppm target range. Low PHMB means inadequate disinfection — the pool is not properly sanitised. Don't swim until levels are restored.
