Lo-Chlor is Australia's most trusted specialist pool and spa chemical manufacturer globally recognised and exporting to 25+ countries. Their range covers algaecides, clarifiers, phosphate removers, stain treatments, stabilisers, spa care, equipment aids and more, every product formulated for Australian water chemistry and climate.
The AquaFresh Start Up Kit contains everything you need to begin the AquaFresh non-chlorine pool system — AquaFresh Sanitiser 1L, AquaFresh Enhance 1L and AquaFresh Performance 1kg, along with instructions for transitioning from chlorine or starting fresh.
The AquaFresh system replaces chlorine with PHMB (polyhexamethylene biguanide), a hospital-grade antimicrobial that sanitises pool water without producing the smell, eye irritation or skin sensitivity associated with chlorine. The Start Up Kit provides enough product for the initial dosing phase and the first weeks of ongoing treatment.
AquaFresh is a chlorine-free system. Select your situation below.
🔄Switching from chlorine▾
✓ Compatible — requires system transition
When switching from chlorine to AquaFresh, super-chlorinate first to remove chlorine residues, then run the pool until chlorine reaches zero before starting AquaFresh. The transition takes 1–2 weeks.
🆕New pool or fresh fill▾
✓ Ideal — start fresh with AquaFresh
A new fill or recently drained pool is the easiest starting point. Use the AquaFresh Start Up Kit for a structured introduction.
🏊Fibreglass▾
✓ Compatible — ideal for fibreglass
AquaFresh PHMB sanitiser is gentle on fibreglass and coloured surfaces, causing no fading or surface degradation.
🧱Concrete / pebblecrete▾
✓ Compatible — safe for all hard surfaces
Safe for concrete, pebblecrete and tiled pools. PHMB does not affect plaster or grout.
⚡Currently using ioniser▾
⚠ Check compatibility
PHMB is not compatible with some ionisation systems. Check your ioniser manufacturer's guidance before switching to AquaFresh.
🧴Sensitive skin / allergies▾
✓ Primary benefit — ideal for allergy sufferers
Eliminating chlorine removes the most common source of pool-related skin, eye and respiratory irritation. AquaFresh is specifically recommended for allergy sufferers and those with sensitive skin.
💊 Starting guide▾
For transitioning from chlorine: super-chlorinate first, wait until free chlorine reaches zero, then start the AquaFresh system.
Transition from chlorine
Super-chlorinate first
Shock pool to 10 ppm free chlorine. Run filter until free chlorine drops to zero. Then begin AquaFresh dosing.
Initial sanitiser dose
500 ml
per 10,000 L
After transition, dose Sanitiser to achieve 30–50 ppm PHMB. Confirm with test kit.
Initial Enhance dose
200 ml
per 50,000 L
Add Enhance with initial Sanitiser dose for immediate algae protection.
Initial Performance dose
100 g
per 50,000 L
Add Performance after 24 hours to begin organic load oxidation. Then dose weekly.
❓ FAQ▾
How long does the transition from chlorine take?▾
The transition typically takes 1–2 weeks. The critical step is ensuring free chlorine drops to zero before introducing PHMB — chlorine and PHMB react against each other. Patience here pays off with a smooth system start.
Is AquaFresh more expensive than chlorine?▾
The initial setup is more expensive, and PHMB products cost more per litre than chlorine. However, the total system cost is offset by the elimination of: chlorine shock purchases, algaecide (replaced by Enhance), clarifier (partly replaced by Enhance), and the indirect costs of pool-related clothing fade, irritation, and equipment corrosion.
Do I need all three products?▾
Yes — each serves a different function. Sanitiser handles disinfection. Enhance handles algae and clarity. Performance handles organic load. Removing any one of the three leaves a gap in the system that will show up in water quality within weeks.
