AquaSpa is a chlorine and bromine-free spa sanitation system developed by Lo-Chlor. The range covers sanitiser, shock, clarifier, water balancers, and filter and pipe care for residential spas, hot tubs and swim spas.
Water that is low in calcium hardness does not stay chemically inert. It draws minerals from the nearest available source: the spa shell, tile grout, heater elements and equipment seals. Soft water that is not balanced for hardness will etch and corrode spa surfaces and components over time, a process that is slow, invisible and expensive to repair. AquaSpa Calcium Enhancer raises calcium hardness to the level where water becomes stable and stops attacking the spa around it.
The target calcium hardness for most spas is 200 to 275 ppm for concrete and tiled surfaces, and 175 to 225 ppm for acrylic and fibreglass. Test with the 4-in-1 Test Kit and check calcium hardness when setting up a new spa or after a water change.
AquaSpa Calcium Enhancer details
Raises calcium hardness in spa and hot tub water
Protects equipment, surfaces and heater elements from soft-water corrosion
Dissolves readily and will not cloud water if dosed correctly
Pre-dissolve in a bucket of water before adding to the spa. Add slowly with the pump running.
To raise by 10 ppm
14g
per 1,000L
Dissolve in warm water and add with pump running. Retest after 4 hours before adding more.
New spa or fresh fill
Test first
Calcium hardness in tap water varies by region. Test before adding Calcium Enhancer to avoid overshooting the target range.
Very low hardness (under 100 ppm)
Add in stages
For significant increases, add in 25g increments per 1,000L with retesting between doses to avoid adding too much at once.
❓ FAQ▾
My water looks fine. Do I still need Calcium Enhancer?▾
Soft-water corrosion is invisible until it is not. Equipment damage from low-hardness water accumulates slowly, but the cost of replacing heater elements or repairing a pitted shell is significant. Testing and correcting calcium hardness when you fill is a lot cheaper than the alternative.
My area has very hard tap water. Can I skip this?▾
Possibly. Test first with the 4-in-1 Test Kit after filling. If calcium hardness is already in the target range, no addition is needed. If it is above 400 ppm, partial dilution with softer water may be more practical than adding chemicals.
Can I add Calcium Enhancer directly to the spa?▾
No. Pre-dissolve in a bucket of warm water and add slowly with the pump running. Adding directly can cause a localised high-concentration cloud that takes time to disperse and may temporarily cloud the water.
Does high calcium hardness cause scale?▾
Yes. Above 350 ppm, calcium scale can form on heater elements and spa surfaces, particularly when pH and alkalinity are also high. Aim for the target range and test regularly rather than trying to maximise hardness.
