Lo-Chlor — Stain & Metal Treatment

📋 How it works▾
Lo-Chlor Metal Solution is a liquid metal sequestrant that binds dissolved metals in pool water — preventing them from oxidising and depositing as stains on pool surfaces and fittings.
Metal staining is one of the most common pool problems in Australia, where bore water, old copper plumbing and high-iron groundwater introduce dissolved metals that become visible once chlorine oxidises them. Metal Solution works by chelating these metals — keeping them in suspension and in the water column where the filter can remove them, rather than letting them deposit on surfaces.
Lo-Chlor Metal Solution details
Liquid metal sequestrant — binds iron, copper, manganese and other dissolved metals
Prevents metal staining before it occurs — most effective used preventatively
Keeps dissolved metals in suspension for filter removal
Does not affect water balance, pH or chlorine levels
Compatible with all pool types and sanitiser systems
Use after filling from a bore or unfiltered water source, or when adding water from iron-rich supplies
For existing metal stains that have already deposited on surfaces, Lo-Chlor Multi Stain Remover or Lo-Chlor Iron Stain Remover removes the deposits first — then dose Metal Solution to prevent recurrence. For ongoing scale and metal prevention, Lo-Chlor Stain & Scale Defence is a comprehensive weekly treatment that handles both metal and calcium issues.
🔍 Does it suit my pool?▾
Select your pool type or surface for specific guidance.
🧂Salt chlorinated▾
✓ Compatible — works with all salt systems
Fully compatible with salt chlorination systems. Apply with the pump running.
💧Traditional chlorine▾
✓ Compatible — works with all chlorine systems
Safe for all chlorine pool systems. Apply with the pump running and circulate for at least 2 hours.
🪨Mineral / magnesium▾
✓ Compatible — safe for mineral systems
Safe for mineral and magnesium pool systems. Does not interact with mineral sanitiser chemistry.
⚡Ionised / Nature2▾
✓ Compatible — important for ionised pool maintenance
Metal Solution is particularly important in ionised pool systems where copper from the ioniser can accumulate over time. Regular dosing keeps copper levels in suspension and prevents the blue-green staining that copper deposits cause.
🏊Fibreglass▾
✓ Compatible — safe for fibreglass
Safe for fibreglass surfaces at recommended doses.
🧱Concrete / pebblecrete▾
✓ Compatible — safe for all hard surfaces
Safe for concrete, pebblecrete and tiled surfaces at recommended doses.
💊 Dosage guide▾
Add directly to pool water with the pump running. For metal-rich fill water, add immediately after filling before shocking.
Preventative — initial dose
250 ml
per 50,000 L
Dose when filling from bore water or metal-rich supply. Prevents staining before it starts.
Monthly maintenance
100 ml
per 50,000 L
Monthly maintenance dose for pools on bore water or with a history of metal staining.
Use the higher dose when filling from water with known high iron content. Retest after 48 hours.
❓ FAQ▾
What's the difference between Metal Solution and Stain & Scale Defence?▾
Metal Solution is a reactive treatment that binds dissolved metals already present in the water. Stain & Scale Defence is a broader ongoing product that handles both metal sequestration and calcium scale prevention weekly. For pools with a significant metal problem, use Metal Solution first for the initial knockdown, then maintain with Stain & Scale Defence.
My pool turned brown after I added chlorine. What happened?▾
This is the classic sign of dissolved iron in the water. Chlorine oxidises dissolved iron, turning it from clear to rust-coloured as it precipitates. If this happens, avoid adding more chlorine until the iron is treated. Dose Metal Solution immediately to sequester the remaining dissolved iron, then use Iron Stain Remover if deposits have settled on surfaces.
Will Metal Solution remove existing stains from pool surfaces?▾
No — Metal Solution keeps dissolved metals in suspension so they can't deposit, but it does not remove stains that have already formed. For existing stains, use Multi Stain Remover or Iron Stain Remover to lift the deposits, then follow up with Metal Solution to prevent recurrence.
Can I add Metal Solution at the same time as chlorine?▾
It's best to add Metal Solution before shocking with chlorine, particularly when filling from a metal-rich water source. Adding chlorine to water with high dissolved metal content without sequestration first causes the metals to precipitate immediately. If adding to a pool already in use, you can dose Metal Solution alongside normal chemical routines.
